Making your own stitch font

Open Lettering → Font builder… and choose + New font (start empty, or from a copy of another font).

For each letter, pick it in the grid on the left, then:

  • Draw the shape: click around the outline of the letter on the guide lines (baseline, x-height, capital height). Click the first point to close it. Draw a shape inside another to make a hole (the middle of an O). Embella turns the shape into satin columns.
  • Draw satin strokes: drag along the middle of each stroke. Each stroke becomes one satin column of the width you set, which is good for scripts and monoline fonts. Tick Tapered ends for pointed ends.
  • SVG or picture: upload an SVG of the letter, or a photo or scan (dark letter on a light background). Fit to scales it to the right height: automatic, capitals, small letters, letters with tails…

Then set the letter spacing, press Auto-kern to even out pairs like AV and To, adjust single pairs if needed, and check the Test line. Export font saves an .ebf file you can import on another computer.
